Emergencies and Pain Control
Emergencies are considered a priority at Canterbury Dental. What constitutes as an emergency?
Pain & Swelling: If you are experiencing pain and swelling, we do our absolute best to see you the same day. Call our office and we will arrange an emergency appointment to deal with the urgent situation. Because we have appointments already scheduled for each day, you may have to wait but we will see you to deal with the specific emergency.
Broken tooth: A broken tooth with pain is definitely an emergency. A broken tooth without pain is something that we will aim to have you seen if not the same day, then at least in a few days. We have a very good short notice cancellation list that we utilize to get people in sooner should an opening come up on the schedule.
Accidents:
A tooth has been knocked out of its socket (hockey, baseball bat etc)
Immediately remove foreign debris from the root (wash or lick it off) and reinsert the tooth back in the socket. It is important to call our office as soon as possible should an accident like this happen. -
Comprehensive Exams and Treatment Planning
Thorough diagnosis and treatment planning is required for the most predictable outcome. Many situations have multiple solutions which can range from simple to complex. Multiple options will be discussed to ensure that you have confidence and control over the oral health care that you require.
-
Children's Dentistry
Dental education is extremely important for children from the time of their first tooth. Our enthusiastic office members help to ensure that children have a good experience at the dental office that will have positive long term effect. Whether it is the first visit, or an emergency visit we offer many options to ensure comfort and care.
-
Preventive Procedures
Frequent exams and oral hygiene are essential to help prevent problems before they begin. Dental hygiene services, nutritional counseling, hygiene instruction, sports guards, intraoral photos and diagnostic radiographs are some of the common services offered to help with prevention of dental issues. Your teeth are cleaned using special instruments to remove plaque from above and below the gumline. Afterwards, your teeth are polished. Tooth polishing makes your teeth look and feel great. It also smoothes tooth surfaces so plaque is less likely to accumulate.
-
Root Canals
Sometimes a root canal is the only option left to help save a tooth. Root canals can be required for many situations. They are often simple comfortable procedures that can help to save a tooth that may otherwise be hopeless.
-
Extractions and Wisdom Tooth Removal
Extractions are a necessary evil in the dental field. Teeth may need to be removed for many reasons: making orthodontic space, infection, fractured, bone loss. Every situation is assessed on an individual basis with many options available for comfort and to minimize anxiety.
-
Nitrous & Oral Sedation
Nitrous sedation is one of the simplest and safest types of sedation for an anxious patient. Also known as “Laughing gas” nitrous oxide, is one of the first used forms to help anxious patients. It is most commonly used with children at our office. Dr.Chad Tibbo will be happy to discuss if nitrous is right for you.
Oral sedation will more commonly be suggested for anxious adults but can be used in conjunction with nitrous. If oral sedation is used, the client will need to have someone bring them to and from the office as they will be impaired.
